In August 2002, the UAB Neuro-Oncology Program was recognized for its exceptional achievements in basic science, translational and clinical research of adult brain tumors with one of the first two SPORE awards from the National Cancer Institute. The other award was made to the Brain Tumor Center at the University of California at San Francisco.
In 2004, two additional Brain Tumor Centers have been recognized with a SPORE award - Mayo Clinic and Duke University Medical Center.
